Portfolio: Formal
This is one of the largest gardens we have completed to date. The sheer size of the house dictated that something understated yet powerful had to be done in the garden.

The formal lines in the garden were taken from the lines of the house, carrying the immense architecture out into the landscaping.
Different garden rooms were created (within the larger garden) and the water feature forms a long axis in line with the front doors of the house.
Pots and other sculptures from Anton Smit constitute a very important part of the features in this garden.
Johannesburg & Pretoria
The first small garden below was brought alive with mirrors, looking as if they formed walkways through the garden walls. The straight formal lines would be further accentuated with mass planting and clipped hedges and rows of conifers and standard roses.
The owners of the second house shown, decided they could no longer live with the free flowing lines of the garden. Our task was to try and keep the beds, but “formalize” the design, including focal points, and a rose garden. Symmetry was very important in the design, and once the garden started taking shape, it immediately fit perfectly with the house.
